課程概述

This course is offered in English, and students are required to participate in class discussions and complete assignments in English. The course introduces Taiwan literature, film, and culture both on a national and international level. We will learn about the basics of literary and film history in Taiwan, read literary works in English translation, and watch movies by Taiwanese cultural producers. Our engagement with these selected literary works and films will provide insights into fundamental issues and keywords such as history, place, gender, and migration. The course aims to refine students' abilities to critically analyze and write about literature and film, as well as to develop a better understanding of Taiwan literature and culture from the Japanese colonial period to the contemporary era.

Our weekly meeting is divided into two parts:
10:20-12:10: lecture
12:20-13:10: discussion

課程目標
By the end of the course, students are expected to:
1) Familiarize themselves with the historical, sociopolitical, and cultural contexts of the assigned works.
2) Acquire sufficient knowledge of Taiwan's history, literature, and culture.
3) Be able to identify keywords and significant issues in Taiwan literature and culture, and critically analyze literary and cinematic works.
課程要求
1) Please read the assigned materials and watch the assigned movies of the week and take notes before class. All designated movies can be borrowed from the Multimedia Service Center in the library, and literary works can be downloaded from NTU COOL.
2) The course is divided into three parts: teacher lectures, movie appreciation, and discussions.
3) You can take notes during class, and all materials used in class will be uploaded to NTU COOL after class.
4) It is prohibited to use any electronic devices during class, and please refrain from engaging in activities unrelated to the course.
5) If you are unable to attend, please request leave before class (leave requests made after the week's class will not be approved). If you have special reasons for personal leave or provide a doctor's certificate for sick leave, your attendance grade will not be deducted. For all other unexcused absences, attendance grades will be deducted, and random roll calls may occur throughout the semester.
6) Late submission of assignments will not be scored. If you are unable to complete an assignment on time due to special reasons, please notify the teacher and request leave in advance. After completing the aforementioned procedures, consult with the teacher regarding the submission of the assignment, and the score for the late submission will be: original score x 80%.
